Ten individuals sentenced of online harassment directed at Brigitte Macron

A court in Paris has found guilty ten people for carrying out the online harassment of Brigitte Macron, the partner of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced charges of spreading fabrications regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to posting defamatory statements about the pair's 24-year age gap.
The court delivered conditional custodial sentences of as much as eight months to the convicted individuals. The full ruling has yet to be released.
A circulating unfounded claim alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's initial election in 2017.
This Monday's court decision in France is concurrent with the Macrons pursuing a legal action for defamation in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has likewise promoted analogous false narratives about the first lady's identity.
Their lawsuit states that Owens brushed aside any factual proof disproving her claim choosing instead to platforming known conspiracy theorists.
Owens has often echoed these assertions on her podcast and online platforms, and in March 2024 declared that she would stake her entire professional reputation on her insistence that Mrs. Macron is in fact a man.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her current spouse when she worked as an educator at his secondary school.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was 54.
